Restoring Albina: A Community-Led Model for Climate and Equity
Albina Vision Trust (AVT) is leading a transformative effort to restore the historic Albina neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, once a thriving Black community disrupted by decades of displacement and disinvestment.
This webinar will explore AVT’s community-led approach to urban redevelopment, which centers racial equity, cultural preservation, and climate resilience. Through inclusive planning, advocacy, and partnerships, AVT envisions a future where Albina is reimagined as a vibrant, regenerative neighborhood that honors its past while preparing for a climate-adaptive future. Attendees will learn how AVT integrates equity into every phase of its work, from land use and transportation to housing and public space, offering a replicable model for cities across the country.
About the Speaker:
Ahlam Osman is a Communications Associate at the Albina Vision Trust (AVT), a Portland-based nonprofit leading a transformative, community-led effort to restore the historic Albina neighborhood. Her work supports AVT’s mission to reconnect people and place through storytelling, advocacy, and design that centers the voices of those most impacted by displacement.
With a background in communications, urban policy, and social impact, Ahlam works across sectors to translate complex ideas about land use, equity, and climate resilience into messages that move action and build community trust. She is deeply engaged in AVT’s vision to ensure that Black Portlanders are not only represented in the future of Albina, but are leading it by owning the homes, businesses, and stories that define the district’s next chapter.
Through her work, Ahlam uplifts the principle that restorative development is not just about rebuilding spaces, but about repairing relationships between people, place, and possibility.
